Steven Tidwell, DDS
Dentist practicing in Alexandria and McLean
Dr. Tidwell knew that dentistry was his career choice when receiving orthodontic treatment as a pre-teen. While pursuing his dream, his affinity for science and friendly manner reinforced this decision which has led to his rewarding dental career and thousands of grateful patients.
After graduating from the University of Southern California, Dr. Tidwell spent the next five years in the under-served Latin community in downtown Los Angeles. Honing his high school Spanish, he worked hard to manage dental offices that emphasized quality dentistry and personalized care for the growing immigrant population of LA.
When he started his own office an hour east of Los Angeles, Dr. Tidwell continued this service in the under-served community and built a successful practice as he embraced the newer technologies of modern dentistry. Impressed with the philosophy of Adhesion Dentistry, Dr. Tidwell found that restorative and cosmetic dentistry could be successful while conserving as much of the natural tooth as possible. This changed everything and gave rise to the next phase of his dental career.
Dr. Tidwell started a new office and later opened a second office emphasizing comprehensive dentistry in a personalized environment. With a small, focused staff, dentistry was delivered in an almost part-of-the-family manner. Patients responded enthusiastically and his practices grew. The relationships with patients and staff made it a very difficult decision to follow the lead of his four grown daughters and move out of Southern California.
Growing up in extremely rural Northern California, and then Idaho, Dr. Tidwell has always enjoyed the outdoors and spends quality time in the mountains of Idaho, and now those near his Northern Virginia home. A committee member in Southern California, he still remains active in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, a conservation-oriented organization. Coincidentally, the RMEF has been responsible in helping elk to be re-established in Virginia.
Learning and embracing new dental technology and techniques has been lifelong for Dr. Tidwell as he attended over thirty hours per year in education as well as individual study. In addition, he studied and taught the principles of team building and self-improvement as formulated by Zig Ziglar in his “See You at the Top” program. This led to rewarding professional and personal relationships and to great times with his daughters coaching their softball teams.
His love of dentistry inspired him to be an ambassador for his profession. For the last two years, he has a radio program “Tomorrow’s Dentistry Today” featured on the “Robert Cardoza Live” radio program. Dr. Tidwell enjoys travel, especially discovering the sights and treasures of the East Coast as well as photography, baseball and college football. As a history buff, he finds Virginia is a perfect place to explore. There are great wineries as well!
